CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — 48-year-old Pierre Riley was among fourteen people who were shot while they attended an East Garfield Park vigil for a friend who had died following complications from surgery.

Riley died at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he had been on life-support following the drive-by shooting at the vigil, which also left children wounded.

Nine of the victims, including a 3-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl and five women, are now recovering at home.

Four others remain hospitalized.

Cherise Patterson, who organized the vigil and was wounded, as well, told the Tribune that a person has to be a “complete monster” to intentionally open fire on a group of women and children.

She said they were still hurting and will be for the rest of their lives.

The shooters have not been caught.
