CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A fatal crash shut down Lake Shore Drive near Monroe Street early Wednesday morning after a car went into oncoming traffic.
According to Chicago police, a Toyota 4 Runner was rear-ended by a black Chrysler 300 that was speeding northbound on Lake Shore Drive, near Monroe Street, and lost control around 12:20am.
The impact sent the Chrysler into the southbound lanes, where it hit a silver Nissan Altima and a black GMC Yukon, police said.
Police said the male driver of the Chrysler was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A male passenger was taken to the same hospital, where his condition stabilized.
The drivers of the Toyota and Nissan refused treatment, while the driver of the GMC was also taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, police said. A female passenger in the GMC was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
