Mask mandate is not entirely gone in Indiana

Indiana mask mandate

INDIANAPOLIS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Indiana’s mask mandate has ended, but residents and visitors will still be required to wear them in many places close to Chicago.

Governor Eric Holcomb’s decision to make mask-wearing advisory rather than a requirement has municipalities and businesses making decisions to extend their own mandates.

LaPorte County extended the mask requirement until the end of the month. Meanwhile, Lake and Porter counties are encouraging people to continue to wear them.

Individual cities and towns, as well as businesses, have the option to continue the mandate and Governor Holcomb has asked that people respect their decisions.

"So whether that is a bank branch lobby, on the factory floor, or a county courthouse or city hall, they retain the authority to make decisions about COVID restrictions for their operations and should be afforded the respect, compliance and understanding of all who visit them," Holcomb said.

Masks will still be required in places like government buildings, courthouses, casinos, schools, and COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites.
