CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) – “Abolish ICE” is among the six winning names selected in Chicago’s fourth annual “You Name a Snowplow” contest.
Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Department of Streets and Sanitation revealed the results after a record-breaking year of participation. More than 13,300 names were submitted, and nearly 39,000 residents cast votes after 25 finalists were posted earlier this month.
The top vote-getters were: “Abolish ICE,” “Stephen Coldbert,” “Pope Frío XIV,” “The Blizzard of Oz,” “Svencoolie,” and “Caleb Chilliams.” An additional entry, “Chance the Scraper,” received honorable mention after finishing just 0.24% shy of the top six.
Johnson praised Chicagoans for their creativity and civic pride and encouraged residents to continue engaging with local government and using 311 city services through the remainder of winter.
Residents who first submitted the winning names, determined by earliest timestamp, will be invited to take a photo with their snowplow and receive city-branded merchandise.
The Department of Streets and Sanitation oversees more than 9,400 lane miles of roadway and operates a fleet of more than 300 salt spreaders. Chicago also maintains more than 400,000 tons of salt and offers a real-time online plow tracker during winter storms.
