CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - With contracts for a new NASCAR race in Chicago and a long-term deal with Lollapalooza in the offing, Mayor Lightfoot said she’s addressing the concerns of some aldermen.

Some Chicago aldermen said city council approval should be necessary for big event deals like the ten-year pact for Lollapalooza and next year’s NASCAR Race. Both events are in and around Grant Park.

Mayor Lightfoot said she thinks it’s a small handful of Council members who feel that way, but sometimes these deals come together faster than the council processes could handle.

She said her administration is keeping the aldermen in the loop though.

“We’re always taking their feedback. We’re always consulting with the local aldermen, and obviously some of these events have been happening for years…But fundamentally, what we need to do is make sure we’re engaging them very early on in the process,” Lightfoot said.

And, she said they need to understand the pressure some of the event promoters are under. But, aldermanic concerns are being heard and addressed.
