(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – With hundreds of migrants expected to move to Daley College this week, asylum-seekers who are already there say there’s not a lot of space.
A small strip mall across from the campus has become a second place of refuge for about a dozen Venezuelan migrants who have already arrived at Daley College.
Yuribeth Silva said she arrived at the college with her two children on June 4.
She says it's been mostly good, besides how crowded it is.
"That is obviously the university's field, so there are lots of people.
It's a refuge for families where there are couples with their kids, and so there's so many people. Always full, full, full,” she told WBBM Newsradio reporter Carolina Garibay.
Silva, speaking in Spanish, said the crowded conditions are why she and others were gathering outside, despite a downpour.
"I need to find a way to go out for a bit since I have kids and we're so cramped," she says.
But other than the crowding , Silva adds, she's "honestly, doing well" and plans to be at the college for about a month before likely being moved somewhere else.
