CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office said there will be more options in the coming weeks for people who want to renew their driver’s licenses and take care of other driving-related business.
Long lines remain a very common sight outside Illinois Secretary of State facilities. Spokesman Dave Drucker said that since capacity limits inside remain, people have to be physically distanced inside and out.
But, there may be some relief in the coming weeks. Drucker said that there’ll be an announcement, possibly in early to mid-June about reopenings of two closed facilities.
"One will be in the James R. Thompson Center here in the Loop location. Then, the other would be out on the West Side at Laramie and Lexington," he said.
An Aug. 1 extension remains for people with expired driver’s licenses to renew them.
In the meantime, if you need to take care of business at currently open facilities, Drucker said, "We’d ask people to be patient. I know it can be a difficult thing."
