(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Authorities have released final accident numbers from the terrible few days on the roads in Northwest Indiana.
Indiana State Police say the treacherous weather -- and drivers who did not heed their warnings to stay home – created problems on I-80/94 and I-65, leading to some major portions of roadways being shut down.
Troopers responded to crashes, slide offs and stranded motorists from Thursday afternoon through Christmas morning.
All told, Indiana State Police in the Lowell District say there were 153 incidents of property damage crashes; 28 crashes with injuries; 83 slide offs; 157 instances of having to assist motorists; five impaired drivers and one injured trooper.
Several troopers were injured in other parts of Indiana during the storm.
