CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police released a warning about a string of armed robberies over the weekend on the city’s Northwest Side.
Police officials said they are tracking nearly 20 armed robberies in the Shakespeare and Grand Central Districts, which include Bucktown, Logan Square, Hermosa, Belmont Cragin and Montclare, Galewood, parts of Wicker Park and parts of Austin.
In a community alert, the department said the suspects drive up to victims — who are on foot — in stolen Kias or Hyundais and rob them at gunpoint. People have been hurt in these robberies, police said.
Officials said it started Saturday night, with a crew of two or three males wearing all black clothing and ski masks, and it continued through Sunday.
At the height of their crime spree, police said the robbers held up five different groups in a span of 10 minutes in Belmont Gardens and Logan Square.
