Neighbors on NW Side reveal details from Saturday's shooting death of 8-year-old-girl

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - We’re learning more about what led up to the shooting death of an 8-year-old girl in Portage Park over the weekend.

Neighbors said the man who killed the girl complained about her being too loud before walking up to her and shooting her in the head Saturday night. Police said it happened at about 9:40 p.m. on the sidewalk near Eddy and Long, where the girl had been riding a scooter. The girl died at the hospital.

Her father saw the shooting and tackled his neighbor, fighting over the gun which, police said, went off. The gunman was shot above his right eye and was taken to the hospital.

Police said they have him in custody while neighbors remain in disbelief.
