HIGHLAND PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Community leaders in Highland Park have organized a special financial campaign for those affected by last week’s shooting at the downtown Independence Day Parade.

The Highland Park Community Foundation announced the launch of the “July 4th Highland Park Shooting Response Fund,” a monetary account accessible for  the family of the shooting victims. According to the foundation, all contributions to the fund will be sent directly to “victims and survivors or the organizations that support them.”

The HPCF board of directors and staff offered the following statement on their website:

“There really are no words to express the depth of our sorrow for what happened at our Independence Day Parade. Tragedy struck our families, our City, and our souls. Never have we needed the strength of community and neighbors more than now.

It is too soon to know what is needed, but once identified, the Highland Park Community Foundation will be there to assist. Neighbors need neighbors, and our community will band together.

That’s what makes Highland Park so great.

We send condolences to the families and friends who lost loved ones, healing thoughts for all who are injured or suffer, and love for our entire community.”

Donations can be made online as well as mailed to the Highland Park Community Foundation, to P.O. Box 398, Highland Park, IL 60035.
