CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There are new safety concerns after large crowds swarmed the streets of Lincoln Park and Old Town last week.
Hundreds of teens attended a party at North Avenue Beach on Wednesday and the event was not permitted by the Chicago Park District. Video on social media showed teens climbing lifeguard towers, CTA buses and later swarming neighborhood gas stations.
In an effort to deter future unruly crowds, 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins is partnering with the Chicago Police Department to host a community safety meeting.
Residents and business owners are invited to attend and address last week’s incident.
“Thankfully [last week] did not see any major injuries, but it was a reminder that there needs to be a dedicated strategic plan from the Chicago Police Department to protect the neighborhoods throughout the summer months,” Hopkins wrote.
The meeting will take place Monday at 5:30 p.m. at The Moody Church on North LaSalle Drive.
It’s co-sponsored by the Old Town Merchants & Residents Association (OTMRA) and Gold Coast Neighbors Association (GCNA).
