(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Northwestern University President Michael Schill says there's no move to fire Athletic Director Derrick Gragg, despite criticism Gragg has faced from some over his handling of the university's hazing scandal.

Schill tells the Daily Northwestern he is supporting Gragg and that "there's no conversation ongoing" about his future with the university.

In his first interview since firing head football coach Pat Fitzgerald two weeks ago, Schill said most of the alleged hazing in the football program preceded Gragg’s tenure as AD. Gragg was named to the post in 2021 after a separate sexual-harassment scandal involving Wildcats cheerleaders led to the departure of his predecessor.

Daily Northwestern reporters asked about "relative silence" from administrators -- especially Gragg -- on the hazing.  Schill said he has not issued a gag order for anyone.
