OAK LAWN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Oak Lawn Village Board has joined other municipalities, prosecutors and elected officials in opposing the sweeping crime bill known as the SAFE-T Act.
During a recent meeting of the board, Mayor Terry Vorderer read a resolution demanding that the legislature repeal the SAFE-T Act.
“Whereas, this bill effectively abolishes cash bail for offenses such as arson, second degree murder, aggravated battery aggravated DUI, aggravated fleeing, drug induced homicide, intimidation, burglary, robbery, kidnapping,” Vorderer said.
"It changed the standard for felony murder to make it more difficult to charge some of our society's most dangerous predators," Vorderer added.
The mayor went on for about seven minutes detailing the objections. The village trustees unanimously approved the resolution that was being sent to the governor.
