(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Albany Park brewpub is getting some financial support — including help from a rival beer makers — after a devastating weekend fire.

Fellow brewers set up a GoFundMe campaign for the Twisted Hippo, which was among two businesses that were burned down early Monday.

The fundraising effort for raised more than $100,000 in its first day.

Among the biggest donors was the Skeleton Key Brewery in Woodridge, which gave $5,000 even as it's still rebuilding after a tornado that struck DuPage County in June 2021.

“We’re on the road to getting back,” John Szopa, a Skeleton Key owner, said Tuesday. “Our minds are just on them and really doing everything we can to help them get on the same direction that we’re on right now.”

The efforts to help the Twisted Hippo recover shows how members of the Chicago-area craft beer community are more like family, rather than rivals.
