CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Want to bring some extra love into your home? Well this may be a great opportunity!
PAWS Chicago said while thousands of dogs and cats have found homes through their virtual adoption process, numerous adult pets have been passed over for puppies and kittens, causing them to stay in the shelter much longer. Many of these pets are searching for an extra special adopter or foster who has the room in their home and heart to welcome an overlooked animal into their family and allow them to blossom.
Therefore, PAWS Chicago will waive adoption fees for select adult dogs and cats Friday, April 16 through Saturday, April 24.

The virtual “Don’t Forget Me” adoption event is designed to bring attention to homeless animals who have been overlooked by potential adopters.
The shelter said some pets available for adoption may have medical needs or require a large backyard for extra playtime. While others are searching for a home with no children or may be fearful and need a little extra time warming up to strangers. Although there may be extra effort involved in adopting one of these sweet friends, the rewards that come will be all the greater once they flourish thanks to your love.
Animals available for adoption include:

• Harding, an energetic 5-year-old Labrador Retriever mix who would do best in a home without children that has room for him to run around inside and outdoors. He is seeking an experienced adopter who can help him work on his training.

• Electra, a playful 1-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix who loves to explore and learns quickly with treats. Electra still thinks she’s a puppy and is looking for a strong handler who shares her zest for adventure (and big yards).

• Ivy, an affectionate 6-year-old Retriever mix who adores people, but does not care for other dogs. She loves being by your side, but is also happy taking naps or playing with her toys. Ivy can become a bit mischievous when left alone so would do best in a home where someone is frequently home.
• Vanilla, a talkative 1-year-old Beagle who loves to go for walks and sniff all the good neighborhood smells. He is hoping to find a home with another playful, dog-social, high-energy dog.
• Winston, a 1-year-old Bully Breed mix who enjoys long walks, runs, and hikes. He would love a family that is home often and with another canine companion who matches his energy level.

• Tad, a clever 1-year-old cat who is very active and appreciates a good head scratch and play session with his humans. He is holding out for an experienced cat adopter than can tell when he wants a cuddle or wants some space.

• Vance, an energetic 6-year-old feline who enjoys other pets and attention. This social boy loves being by his people and is seeking an adopter who has time for structured play sessions.
• Baby, a 1-year-old Siamese mix looking for a patient family that will let her adjust to her new home before she flourishes into the loving cat she’s known to be. Daily play sessions will help Baby build confidence in her home of adults and children 12 and older.

Once virtual adoption counseling has been completed, adopters will meet their animals at the PAWS Chicago Lincoln Park Adoption Center located at 1997 N. Clybourn Ave.
Select long-term adult dogs and cats (one year and older) will have adoption fees waived. Adoption requirements and a refundable $100 training deposit for courses completed at the PAWS Chicago Training Center for all dogs still apply.
Not ready to adopt? PAWS Chicago is also seeking special foster homes who can give these animals a temporary break from the adoption center. Foster homes allow pets an opportunity to experience a loving home environment where they can grow and thrive.
PAWS Chicago is the largest No Kill humane organization.
