Armed man shot dead in confrontation with Forest Park police

FOREST PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man is dead after he was shot during a confrontation with police Wednesday night in west suburban Forest Park.

According to police, officers were called to the Jimmy Johns at 350 Circle Avenue just before 8 p.m. Wednesday night after a man dropped a handgun on the floor of the restaurant.

Witnesses told police the man was waving the gun around saying, “Please don’t make me do this now.”

According to police, the man then walked outside the restaurant with the gun in his hand. When officers arrived at the scene, police said, shots were fired.

The man was hit. Police did not say if Forest Park officers or someone else fired the shot that struck the man.

The man was placed into custody and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name hasn’t been released.

The gun was recovered, and police said the officers involved were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It was not known if any officer was struck by gunfire.

The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force are investigating the shooting.
