Police investigating carjacking attempts in Chicago, Woodridge

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police in the city and suburbs are investigating a couple of carjacking attempts - one successful, one not.

According to Chicago police, a 26-year-old man was carjacked Thursday morning in Bronzeville on the South Side.

Around 2 a.m., the man was buying items at the service window of a gas station in the 3100 block of South Michigan Avenue, when a black vehicle stopped near him and someone got out and pointed a gun at him, Chicago police said.

The armed person demanded the man's keys and cellphone, police said, and fled in his black Mercedes G-Wagon west on 31st Street.

No one was injured. Area One detectives are investigating.

In west suburban Woodridge, just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, a woman had just started in the 8200 block of Carolwood Lane, when two men in ski masks approached.

Police said one of the men appeared to have a gun and ordered the woman to give him her purse. She quickly drove away and called 911.

According to Woodridge police, both men were last seen running south on Carolwood Lane. The two men are Black, stand 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, and are 19 to 28 years old. They both wore full ski masks and winter coats.
