(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A student from Plainfield East High School was arrested after authorities say they found a loaded handgun in her car.

School staff suspected Serena L. Cail, 18, of Romeoville may have been smoking marijuana and asked the school resource officer to search her car Monday morning, Plainfield Police said in a news release.

Twice, they said, she got into the car and was ordered out. The second time, she reportedly reached for the floor. When the officer tried to restrain her, Cail allegedly kicked the officer.

More officers showed up. Police said a search revealed a loaded 9mm pistol under the passenger seat. The weapon is consistent with a “ghost gun,” a gun assembled with different parts and without a serial number, police said.

Cail was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery to a police officer and unlawful use of a weapon.
