(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Gov. JB Pritzker is rejecting suggestions there is a conflict of interest with investments his trust made in a big state contractor.
The Better Government Association reports that a trust operated on behalf of the billionaire governor purchased stock in Centene Corp., one of the state’s biggest Medicaid contractors back in 2020. That year, the state made some decisions that benefitted the company.
Pritzker, at an unrelated appearance Monday, was pressed whether that is a conflict of interest.
He said no. Because it’s a blind trust, he said he doesn’t have the power to make investments while he’s governor. He added there are safeguards to prevent conflicts.
If a conflict was established, any questioned profits would be donated to charity, he said.
Pritzker’s net worth is more than $3.5 billion.
