CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Blue Angels were delayed by rain for the Air and Water Show and performed an abbreviated show that saw a number of acts scrapped because of the weather.
Some of the acts can fly in a little rain.
However, it's not ideal, though, for an open cockpit bi-plane, like “Big Red” the barnstormer flown by Susan Dacy, flying, or in this case, not-flying, in what is a male-dominated event.
"We keep our aircraft up to the same standards as a current modern aaircraft, so things have been improved over time," she said. "This aircraft went through a complete restoration earlier this year, so the fabric on this has all been replaced...repainted."
Dacy, who’s from Harvard, Illinois and flies commercial airliners, was a little disappointed and looking forward to flying for day 2.
It was a little disappointing for the acts that couldn’t perform.
First timer Kevin Coleman did get up for a three plane act called Triple Time, but his solo performance was scrapped.
Still, he loved the venue.
'It's awesome. It's one of the coolest places that-I mean I've gotten to fly all over the world with Red Bull-like 20 different countries, but flying in Chicago is so cool, because you're right there with the skyline," Coleman said.
"The beach and the water is beautiful."
Some of the military planes did get up including the A-10's and the F-35's.
