Resident dies, firefighter injured in Logan Square house fire: CFD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A house fire in Logan Square has left one resident dead and sent a firefighter to the hospital.

The early morning fire broke out at a home on Sawyer, just north of the 606 Trail.

The Chicago Fire Department (CFD) confirmed a resident inside the home was killed, while a firefighter battling the flames suffered minor injuries was transported to an area hospital.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire at around 7:15 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

"This guy was a hoarder," . "We had trouble doing searches. It's just hard to do a search when conditions are like that."

Firefighters initially fought the fire from the outside. The sole occupant, a man in his 70s, was found dead on the second floor.

One firefighter fell off of a ladder, though CFD officials said he would be OK.
