(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Residents are back home and businesses are opening up again in Rockton, four days after an explosion and fire at a chemical plant in the northern Illinois community.
“We have some good news, and I’m very happy to report at this time that we are lifting the evacuation order,” Rockton Fire Chief Kirk Wilson spoke to WIFR-TV.
On Monday morning, an explosion at the Chemtool Inc. plant ignited a fire that burned for days before foam solvent helped bring it under control. The cause is still under investigation, but officials said criminal activity is not suspected.
The Winnebago County Public Health Department said it will be canvassing the neighborhood telling people how to clean their pools and how to use their A/C units after the toxic blaze.
