CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The owners of a Rogers Park auto shop who lost thousands of dollars worth of tools and had thousands in damage in a burglary took to Facebook saying this could drive them out of the neighborhood.

“We come to Facebook with heavy hearts, wondering why us we do everything we can to keep as many people happy as possible and try to give back to our neighborhood to be treated with such disrespect,” said Runge’s Auto and Tire, located on Rogers and Paulina.

It said thousands of dollars worth of tools were taken, as well as important documents, and there was thousands of dollars in damage.

Owners Tim and Chuck Runge declined to talk about it.

But, customers are voicing support.

“Your shop is an oasis of kindness,” Abby Abrams wrote

“A true family business gem…Selfishly hoping you will stay,” others posted.

“You kept my RAV4 going for 17 years. You are a local institution and damn good at it.  How can we help,” Jenny Clark’s message said.

“You helped me out when I really needed it…And didn’t even charge me,” Kathy Coglianese wrote.

A number of people have offered financial support.

They’ve been in business since 1963 and the building has housed an auto shop for more than 100 years.
