Thanks to the Salvation Army and its Angel Tree program, an Antioch family had a real Christmas last year when they needed it most.
Eleven years ago, Paula Theel gave birth to her third child, a girl who weighed only 3 pounds, 2 ounces. They named her Adysyn.
Her baby was born with several health problems, including an inoperable tumor on her spine.
Paula Theel says Adysyn needs constant care.
Last year, the family got help from the Salvation Army.
“If it wasn’t for them, there probably wouldn’t be very many happy things to offset all these doctors’ appointments and procedures,” Theel said.
Theel says she had hoped the Salvation Army might make it possible for Adysyn to have a gift or two.
“What I received was a thousand times more than what I ever anticipated,” she said.
The organization helped bring a sense of "normalcy," Theel said -- no small accomplishment.
“It was being able to see the joy and happiness of my children and not having to stress or worry or feel inadequate as a parent,” she said.
