EVANSTON, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Two weeks into the new year, schools in Evanston-Skokie District 65 are seeing a predicted increase in COVID cases and the district has laid out its plans for handling them.
COVID will be treated like other communicable diseases and there will be no remote learning this year. That’s the directive from D65 Interim Superintendent Angel Turner.
In a message to parents, she said students and staff who test positive must quarantine for five days and can come back wearing a mask for another five days as long as they’re symptom free.
Schools will send home letters informing parents of a confirmed case in their child's classroom. If there’s an outbreak among five or more students, they recommend masks for all students in that class.
"We strongly encourage practicing good hygiene habits and keeping up-to-date with all necessary vaccinations, including COVID-19 and influenza," Turner added in the message.
