CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A downstate judge’s order Monday scrapping Governor Pritzker’s school mask mandate has had a ripple effect in school districts all over the state.

The two largest school districts in Illinois - Chicago Public Schools and Elgin District U-46 - are continuing their mask mandates; however, U-46 Supt. Tony Sanders said students who already have medical exemptions or who are part of the downstate lawsuit do not have to wear masks.

Naperville District 203 is also continuing its mask rule.

Meanwhile, other school districts are all over the map.

Geneva School District 304 and St. Charles District 303 canceled classes Monday so their legal teams can thoroughly examine the Judge Raylene Grischow’s ruling, but starting Tuesday, District 303 is going mask-optional.

Masks are not required as of Monday in Orland 135, Lake Forest 67 and 115, Community Unit School District 200, and High School District 214.  Some of those districts, however, still would like to see masks being worn and ask staff and students to choose kindness when dealing with people who don’t think as they do about mask-wearing.

Despite the judge's order, masks continue to be required on school buses, because that’s part of a federal CDC order.
