(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Waukegan Police resumed searching Friday for a 21-year-old sailor from the Great Lakes Naval Station who has been missing since the weekend.

Police said Seamus Gray was last seen around 1:30 a.m. on March 18 as he left the Ibiza Night Club.

Gray, from Jupiter, Fla., did not return to the Great Lakes Naval Station and has not been seen since.

His mother said Gray was supposed to play Xbox online with his 14-year-old brother later that night. She said it was unlike her son to have no contact with his family this long.

“We’re never not in contact,” said Kerry Gray. “The only time I’ve ever not heard from my son was when he was in bootcamp. We talked 10 times a day — whether it’s silly memes, whether it’s just texting.”

Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Brian Mullen said they have been searching for Seamus Gray on the ground and with airborne drones.

“Searches wrapped up early because, after making numerous passes on land and air, it was determined that our resources have kind of been exhausted today,” Mullen said Thursday. “I also want to emphasize that our search didn’t just start today. We were out here all day yesterday.”

Mullen said investigators are reviewing each new piece of surveillance video as it comes in.

“Overnight, we received some more video down here at the lakefront from some of the businesses at the marinas that were showing Seamus right on the water’s edge, so we focused our efforts searching the water,” he said.

Gray was a fireman recruit assigned to the Surface Warfare Engineering School Command at the Naval Station Great Lakes. The Navy released a statement Thursday saying its Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) office at Great Lakes was assisting with the investigation.

He’s been described as 6-foot-3-inches, weighing around 170 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a light pink or red long-sleeved shirt. Gray has tattoos on his left arm and script tattoo on his ribcage.

Kerry Gray made a tearful plea for information.

“I’d like for anybody who has any information about my son, Seamus, to please come forward and please help me,” she said.

“He’s my life.”

Anyone with information has been asked to submit tips to the Waukegan Police Department tip line at 847-360-9001, or by texting the keyword WPDTIP and their message to 847411. Anonymous web tips can also be submitted here.
