(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Over $100,00 dollars heads to war-stricken Ukraine, raised by a company that operates several local senior living facilities.
Belmont Village Senior Living established a fund called BV Cares back in 2008 to offer support for employees experiencing hardship.
"It's been used for people who've experienced floods, fires, personal crises, escaping an abuse home-things of that nature," said Patricia Will, CEO of Belmont Senior Living.
She told WBBM that the company matches donations to the fund, which in the past has even been extended to families of BV employees when disaster strikes around the world.
Now, the company matched $65,000 in donations for a grand total of $130,000 that was sent this past week to an organization that will use the money to provide life saving supplies for families and the elderly in Ukraine.
"To the best of our knowledge, it is primarily helping with shelters, with food, with clothing," Will said regarding the funds.
