A northwest suburban school district is surveying parents about whether any families are interested in full-year remote learning for their children next fall.
According to Barrington School District 220 Supt. Brian Harris, 70% of the district’s 9,000 students are learning in-person five days a week. The other 30% are learning from home.
Because there is no COVID-19 vaccine for children, the district will ask parents if they want their children to do online learning for the entire school year.
There would be no hybrid scenarios for students, so families would have to commit to in-person or remote learning.
He said he expects 8% to 10% of parents to choose a full-time Virtual Academy for their children for the next school year. Remote instruction works well for some students, Harris said.
Remote learning would look different next year for middle- and high-school students, with teachers focusing on remote learners and not juggling them with in-person students, Harris said.
The surveys will be due April 30.
