(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Authorities in Lake County say one man is in custody and another still at large after a car stolen in a Wisconsin armed robbery collided with a freight train early this morning in Zion.

The armed robbery was at a gas station in Pleasant Prairie, just south of Kenosha. Among the possessions taken: the station attendant’s car.

A couple of hours later, in unincorporated Zion, one of the two men involved in the robbery drove the car on railroad tracks, where it was hit by a freight train, authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli called the driver’s actions “unbelievably bizarre.”

“It’s possible that intoxication had something to do with it. It’s possible that there was the intent to somehow dispose of the car,” he said.

One man was arrested near the scene of the crash, and the other man is believed to have been dropped off after the robbery and before the collision, Covelli said.
