(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A former Chicago man has been sentenced to a life behind bars for the brutal killing of his girlfriend in DuPage County in 2015.

Launden Luckett, 34, was sentenced Monday to two natural life prison terms without the chance for parole, plus 25 years, for stabbing and choking to death his 26-year-old girlfriend, Cecily Dickey.

She had driven to Chicago to pick him up to take him to her Woodridge apartment in October 2015. The next morning, authorities said, they argued and Luckett Dickey before running off with her car, debit card and cell phone.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said Luckett will be removed from society for the rest of his natural life.

“Violent crime in its rawest form, as displayed by Mr. Luckett in this case, has an obvious effect on the victim and surviving family members,” Berlin said in a news release.

A jury found Luckett guilty of first-degree murder last November.
