CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two 7-Eleven stores on the North Side were the targets of armed robbers early Monday morning, and Chicago police said the stores were hit about 20 minutes apart.

The first robbery occurred at a 7-Eleven on the 1100 block of West Belmont Avenue shortly after 3:30 a.m. According to police, two men walked in and pulled out handguns.

Police said the employees ran to a back room and locked themselves in, while the men allegedly took two cash registers.

The second incident occurred at a 7-Eleven on the 2300 block of North Damen Avenue. Again, police said, two armed men demanded money. The suspects allegedly took cash from the registers and ran to a black SUV, which police said a third person was driving.

No one was injured in either armed robbery, and Chicago police said the two crimes were not linked.

Area Three detectives are investigating both robberies.
