CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Thieves robbed two high-end boutiques in the Gold Coast neighborhood, despite heightened security designed to prevent this kind of thing.
There’s been a great deal of coverage of robberies of high-end stores in the area in recent weeks; and despite precautions being taken, two high-end stores were robbed within 10 minutes Wednesday night on Oak Street, just a block from the Mag Mile. This time not by organized smash-and-grab teams, but two guys in one case and one in the second.
The Prada and Hermes stores on Oak between Rush Street and Michigan Avenue.
The first robbery occurred at 5:05 p.m. in the first block of East Oak Street, Chicago police said. Two robbers took items from the Prada store at 30 E. Oak St. and ran off.
Ten minutes later, someone entered the Hermes at 25 E. Oak St., sprayed the security guard with mace, grabbed some merchandise and ran off, police said.
The security guard refused medical attention, police said.
Cameras blanket the area. Typically police will track the movements of the suspects in these situations using as many cameras as possible, attempting to identify them.
Video has not been released and there are no descriptions yet.
There was no one in custody.
