LAKE IN THE HILLS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Crowds flocked to UpRising Bakery and Cafe in Lake in the Hills Bakery Sunday after vandalism over a family friendly drag show forced it to close.
Corinna Sac was back in the kitchen of her uprising bakery at 4 a.m. baking her famous bundt cakes and cinnamon rolls.
She was able to reopen one day after, police allege, an Alsip man broke the door and three windows at her cafe — which forced her to cancel the planned drag show dinner.
“There's been a line out the door,” Sac said. “The entire cafe is packed. Everyone here is super supportive, and we haven't had any negativity so far in the cafe, which is amazing."
In a Facebook post, UpRising Bakery and Cafe wrote: “Love and light live here. We live here. This is our home. This is our town. This is our country. This is our fight. We’re not turning our backs or backing down now.”
Sac said she is surprised at how many people have heard about what she called, “the uproar,” including folks from overseas.
“Those people who want to donate, I’m making sure that I hug everyone ,and say ‘thank you’ to everyone, and smile at everyone,” Sac said, “Because that’s just what everyone needs right now.”

“Once we run out, we run out, because all of my dry ingredients were in the room where the glass went when the guy busted our windows,” Sac said
As for the drag show, Sac said she had made it clear the performers would wear modest costumes with no nudity or lewd dancing.
There’s a show planned for Aug. 7, and Sac said she’s working with the Lake in the Hills Police Department on scheduling more.
