Caught on tape: Cook County sheriff’s officers stole NASCAR banners, video shows

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two Cook County sheriff’s officers are out of a job after they allegedly swiped some NASCAR memorabilia.

It happened on July 12, outside of Mother Hubbard’s bar in River North, where a couple of NASCAR banners had been hanging from a railing.

According to CBS 2, surveillance video showed one Cook County sheriff’s officer steal the banners and place them in the trunk of their squad car while another officer acted as a lookout.

The Chicago Police Department contacted the Cook County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Review to report the theft.

Both officers resigned once the sheriff’s office began its investigation.
