CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police are investigating a stabbing that took place outside a popular North Side grocery store Sunday night.

Police said the stabbing happened at 6:25 p.m. outside Morse Market in the 1400 block of West Morse Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) said in a Facebook post that the victim was a store employee. The alderwoman added that the incident happened after the store was closed and that the attacker has a history of criminal activities involving local stores and their staff.

Police said the 56-year-old store employee was stabbed in the upper abdomen after he confronted a man who he’d seen slashing his vehicle’s front tire. According to police, the worker then grabbed an object and confronted the man.

The two scuffled, and that's when the victim was stabbed with an unknown object.

The attacker took off west down an alley, and the victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in good condition.

Police said no one is in custody. Area Five detectives are investigating.
