Youth sports see high turnout after year of cancellations

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- While they’re likely to look different than years past, organizers of local youth sports are game planning for some fun and safe seasons this year.

A year after a spring and summer with practically no sports, Chad Croley, Owner of I9 Sports Naperville/Aurora, said there is plenty of pent up demand.

“The proof is in the numbers,” he said. “We’re still doing a lot of safety protocols as far as group sizes, but a lot of our programs are still selling out.”

No matter the sport, Croley said leagues will be following strict guidelines to ensure everyone is kept safe.

“No one wants to be out there policing these things and doing it, but we have to do what we can so our kids can get out there and play safely until we get back to normal," he said.

As a father of young athletes himself, Croley said he knows firsthand that kids are ready to get back to sports this year.

“The excitement is unbelievable,” he said. “Just being able to leave the house and get some energy out and be with friends. That’s all there.”
