Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - 24-year-old Naesha Lumpkin has been charged with child endangerment after New York State Troopers found a 2-year-old child inside a makeshift cage at a residence on Chadduck Avenue in the City of Buffalo.

State police say they were carrying out a search warrant for a separate crime when they discovered the child inside a play pen covered by a piece of a crib. The cover was held down on three sides, preventing the child from getting out.

The child was covered in fecal matter, and there was also fecal matter found on the walls and on the cage. The child and bedding were also covered in urine.

Child Protective Services and an ambulance were called, with the toddler being transported to Oishei Children's Hospital. Medical evaluations found bruising on the toddler's body and two fractured ribs.

When questioned, Lumpkin claimed the child fell down the stairs.
