Catholic Diocese recommends closure of 15 Buffalo churches

Parishes have until July 15th to agree to close or propose another plan

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo is recommending the closure or merger of 15 churches across the city.

The recommendations came at a meeting at St. Anthony's on Thursday night, with diocese officials and about 100 parishioners in attendance.

Parishes will have until July 15 to either agree with the closures or propose other recommendations.

Several more meetings are scheduled in the next week to review parishes
in Northern and Southern Erie County, Niagara, Genesee and Wyoming counties.

This is part of a plan to restructure the Diocese with fewer priests and fewer parishioners.

- St. Mark
- St. Rose of Lima
- All Saints
- St. Lawrence
- SS. Columbia Brigid
- St. Anthony of Padua
- St. Michael
- Our Lady of Perpetual Help
- Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
- St. John Kanty
- St. John Gualbert
- St. Martin of Tours
- St. Thomas Aquinas
- St. Bernard
