Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Max Hairston, the Buffalo Bills' first round pick in this year's NFL Draft, is being sued in Lexington, KY for an alleged sexual assault that occurred in 2021.
The lawsuit accuses Hairston of sexually assaulting Rebecca Hendryx at Hendryx's University of Kentucky dorm room, where both were attending.
Attorneys for law firms Meyers & Flowers and Bryant Law Center say Hairston and Hendryx first met in early 2021. Hendryx visited Hairston's dorm room shortly after they met but became uncomfortable when Hairston allegedly tried cornering Hendryx in his bedroom. Hendryx went on to leave the room. Hairston allegedly messaged Hendryx on Snapchat later that night asking to meet for sex.
The alleged assault happened in March 2021. The lawsuit states Hairston and Hendryx had not been in contact when Hairston showed up uninvited to Hendryx's dorm room one night and allegedly forced his way into her room despite Hendryx's rejection.
The lawsuit says Hairston then followed Hendryx into her bedroom and forcibly removed Hendryx's clothes before assaulting her. All of this was after Hendryx denied Hairston's advances.
Hendryx transferred to a different school after the incident.
Bills GM Brandon Beane was asked about the accusations after drafting Hairston in April.
"He's an impeccable kid," Beane said. "We did a lot of research. I think all teams were aware of the Title IX thing. That was fully investigated by the school...It was one of those where there was zero information saying that this actually happened."
WBEN has reached out to the Bills for further comment.
