Hamburg, N.Y. (WBEN) - "We've always been blessed to be right next door to the stadium and now the new stadium will be even closer," said Hamburg town council member Elizabeth Farrell Lorentz while appearing on WBEN on Wednesday.
The town hosted a stadium impact meeting with the public Tuesday night.
"This was our first opportunity to meet with the public and get their input
on what our Project Advisory Team has been working on for the past year," Lorentz described.
Lorentz says she was very encouraged by the public response and enthusiasm.
What are the possibilities for Hamburg? Lorentz says the options are endless.
"Our Project Advisory Team has put together a list of options, everything from
a work-play-live mixed use concept to experiences, which so many people are looking for," she said.
Because of the proximity of the stadium to existing neighborhoods, she said the town is also looking at more creative buffers, as a means of separation.
Another large part of it will be reimagining the Erie Community College South campus, which will be moving from its current location on Southwestern Boulevard. In addition, the McKinley Parkway Corridor, less than a mile from the stadium, also offers more opportunity.
"Everything is on the table," said Lorentz, who noted that Tuesday night's meeting was the first of three public meetings to discuss redevelopment plans near the new Bills stadium.
No dates have been set for the remaining meetings.
"What stood out the most, to me, was the enthusiasm for creating something that's different. We know that our plans need to facilitate options that can be sustained beyond game days and event days each year," Lorentz added.
