Local residents weigh in on Everhart's proposal on unaccompanied teens at festivals

"If you have teens that don't want to hangout with their parents, then the parents go by themselves, which means less people, less revenue, less spending, the whole domino effect of spending locally."

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Masten District Councilwoman Zeneta Everhart announced on Wednesday a proposal to restrict teenagers under the age of 17 from attending local festivals unsupervised after multiple fights broke out at this past weekend's Juneteenth festival.

How do local downtown residents feel about Everhart's intentions? One resident believes it could be an issue trying to keep up with so many people at the events.

"I don't see how an execution can happen," said Tom Connors from Buffalo. "You'd have to start pulling IDs on everybody. I think that would be a real intrusion on privacy."

Others believe teenagers are old enough to be able to work and drive a car, and don't need supervision when coming out to a festival. Some also feel the proposal could lead to less people showing up to festivals like the Juneteenth festival.

"Teens don't want to hangout with their parents," said another Buffalo resident to WBEN. "If you have teens that don't want to hangout with their parents, then the parents go by themselves, which means less people, less revenue, less spending the whole domino effect of spending locally."
