Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Shakenya Griffin, mother of Ramone Carter, the 3-year-old boy who was shot and killed while playing outside with his 7-year-old sister on Domedion Avenue on Friday, is calling for action to stop the violence that continues to ensue on the streets of Buffalo.
"This is really too much. The violence really has to stop here, it really does," Griffin told reporters on Tuesday. "I always wanted a son, I finally had a son. Now, I don't have a son."
With her heart still extremely heavy from the devastating actions that ensued Friday night during a family function, Griffin said her only son was a beacon of light.
"He was an adorable kid, always smiling. He loved playing on his bicycle, he was a Buffalo Bills fan, he's loved Josh Allen. He loved to dance, he loved his siblings," she said.
A lot of support has surrounded the family in the days after the shooting, including members of the group Griffin is part of, Most Valuable Parents of Buffalo. MVP is an organized body of concerned citizens, parents and organizations who stand in unity to address issues that impact Buffalo, and to make the city a better and safer place to live.
Griffin acknowledged the support she has been getting from groups like the Buffalo F.A.T.H.E.R.S, Buffalo Peacemakers, as well as MVP. She also appreciates Bruce Warrick of Trust God Ministries, who baptized community members on Domedion Avenue on Saturday.
"The violence got to stop like, this is ridiculous and I'm hearing it every day people getting shot. It just has got to stop, period," Griffin said. "I would have never thought I would have had to go through it myself. I miss my son. I really miss him. This is really too much for me."
Funeral proceedings for Ramone Carter are this Friday at The Greater Royal Worship Center on Clinton Street in the City of Buffalo.
