"We reached a framework for a tentative agreement which will be presented publicly at a Board of Education special meeting at 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon for your consideration and vote to approve."

Following board approval, the contract would be provided for the teachers to review and a ratification vote is expected Monday, according to Kuzma.

"This is a historic, monumental moment," Kuzma said of the contract that is expected to raise the average salary of Buffalo Teachers Federation members to over $90,000 and provide a signing bonus.

"This contract for our teaching unit is an investment in the long term, great future of the Buffalo Public Schools," Kuzma told the board Wednesday. "It will carry us forward for years to come."

Word of the tentative agreement between the district and BTF came as word was spreading that longtime BTF President Phil Rumore announced he would retire effective June 30.
