Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - Erie County Sheriff's deputies say they've arrested two more people for breaking in and trespassing the stadium construction site at Sunday's Buffalo Bills game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Chief Tim Carney says one incident happened before kickoff this past Sunday, while the other took play before the end of the game. Both individuals face trespassing charges, and brings the total of fans arrested this year for trespassing on site of the new Highmark Stadium to 10 so far.
"I think in probably more than half of the instances, there was alcohol involved. In the other instances, I compare it to that big, shiny ball that kind of draws everyone's attention," said Carney on Thursday with WBEN.
Carney believes the number will increase as construction draws closer to completion, which is slated for 2026.
Around the construction site in Orchard Park, there are 6-to-8-foot fences with 'No Trespassing' signs clearly marked. One doesn't have to look back far to learn how dangerous it can be.
"Our first instance this year, back on Sept. 17, when we had ... a male subject who was very badly injured as a result of being inside the construction zone," Carney noted.
Carney says it's difficult to do anything more to keep people away.
"Minus putting somebody every 10-to-15 feet and throw a moat around the construction site, I really don't know what can be done. I think we would just kind of ask for the public's cooperation," said Carney.
