Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Monday brought the first public comments from the NFL hierarchy since the horrifying collapse of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin Monday night.

NFL Football Operations Executive Vice President Troy Vincent says the emergency personnel did everything right in saving the life of Hamlin, who collapsed during the Bills game vs. Cincinnati.

An emotional Vincent told reporters there is no playbook for what happened Monday. "My greatest fear had flashed in front of me in that particular moment but for the goodness and grace of God, Damar is still here and he's still fighting," says Vincent. He says the emergency plan was executed to perfection.

Vincent also slams reports that players had been given a 5-minute warning to return to play Monday night, saying the rumor lacked "compassion and empathy" for those on and off the field. "It lacked complete and it was just so insensitive to think that we were even thinking about returning to play," says Vincent. He adds there was no such order from him or anyone else in the league.

NFL Executive Vice President of Communications, Public Affairs & Policy Jeff Miller tells reporters Wednesday they have no plans yet on how they will continue the game, including a possible removal of the NFL's "Bye Week" leading up to playoffs. "Obviously we're going to have to make a decision on that in the coming days which we will but there's a lot considerations in place there and a lot of people we want to consult with," says Miller.

A decision will be made in the coming days. The outcome of the game has major playoff implications because the Bills (12-3) entered Monday night as the AFC's No. 1 seed.
