NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A lawyer for one of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s accusers on Monday claimed his administration is trying to interfere with an independent investigation into the sexual harassment allegations he is facing, according to a report.
Attorney Debra Katz, who is representing former Cuomo aide Charlotte Bennett, sent a letter to Attorney General Letitia James on Monday claiming Cuomo’s office “is providing staffers with in-house attorneys to meet with them in advance of their investigatory interviews… and to attend those interviews with them,” the New York Post reported.
James’ office is currently overseeing a probe led by Joon Kim, the former acting U.S. Attorney in Manhattan, and employment attorney Anne Clark, into claims of sexual harassment or misconduct lodged against Cuomo by eight women, including several current and former aides.
“It is my understanding that these attorneys are also ‘debriefing’ staffers after their interviews with investigators,” Katz wrote in the letter, according to the Post. “This is highly improper and we object in the strongest possible terms to this obvious interference with what you have stated would be a ‘thorough and independent’ investigation.”
Representatives for Cuomo and James didn’t immediately respond to the Post’s requests for comment on the letter.
