NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — John Mayer has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time in two months, forcing the singer-songwriter to postpone a series of upcoming shows, including a concert at Long Island's UBS Arena.
"More members of the band tested positive for COVID today, and I was one of them," the 44-year-old Connecticut native said in an Instagram post Thursday. "This means we have to reschedule the next four shows."
Mayer was set to perform at UBS Arena next Tuesday. That show has been moved to May 7.
Performances in Pittsburgh and Boston have also been pushed back.
"I'm sorry to make you change your plans," Mayer said. "This is a bummer for everyone in the band and crew ... We'll give you everything we've got at these upcoming shows, just as soon as we rest up and regroup."
Mayer said his first bout with COVID was "extremely mild," but that's not the case the second time around.
"This one's got the better of me," he said.
Earlier this week, Mayer's drummer had to bow out of one of their gigs at Madison Square Garden after testing positive for COVID-19. Roots drummer Questlove stepped in to fill his spot.
