GREENWICH, CT (1010 WINS) — A Connecticut hedge fund heiress was sentenced to one year in prison on Tuesday for secretly filming a nude minor and others.
Judge John Blawie decided to keep the case against 54-year-old Hadley Palmer sealed, ensuring the details of her pedophilic voyeurism will remain private.
The Associated Press criticized Blawie for minimizing the public scrutiny of the case and government transparency advocates said the decision was unusual for similar cases in Connecticut.
Hadley was arrested in October 2021 on charges of employing a minor in an obscene performance and possession of child pornography after she recorded someone nude or in their underwear with the “intent to arouse or satisfy the sexual desire of such person [Palmer].”
She took a plea deal in January for the less serious charges of voyeurism and risk of injury to a minor.
Normally, the details of serious sex crimes in Connecticut would be part of the public record, but Blawie allowed Palmer to enroll in an accelerated rehabilitation program she was not eligible for due to the serious nature of the charges against her.
Enrollment in the program ensured the case would remain sealed and with most details inaccessible to the public.
Palmer, who is the daughter of hedge fund founder Jerrold Fine, admitted to recording the exposed child and others in her multimillion-dollar Greenwich mansion in 2017 and 2018.
In addition to the year-long jail sentence, she will spend 10 years on the sex offender registry and 20 years on probation.
